THERE was traffic chaos after a collision involving a bus and a car brought one of the main routes into Dublin to a standstill.
It happened at around 12.15pm close to the junction of the M1 and M50 motorways and caused widespread disruption for more than three hours.
No one was seriously injured in the crash but the female driver of the car was taken to hospital.
Traffic quickly backed up as the section of the southbound M1 was closed. A 7km tailback built up, with AA Roadwatch saying some motorists were "stuck for hours". The motorway was fully re-opened after 3pm.
Meanwhile, two men were in a critical condition in hospital last night following a two-vehicle collision.
The car in which they were travelling was in collision with a 4x4 on the N7 road at Lisnagry, Co Limerick, yesterday afternoon.
Firemen had to cut them from their vehicle before they were rushed to hospital.
A third man – the driver of the 4x4 – was also hospitalised, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
