Change of a tenner: new note due in September

ECB rules out plastic notes: Business, P28&29

A NEW €10 banknote will come into circulation next September. The note will be similar in appearance to the current one but will be more durable and resistant to counterfeiting. Eighteen countries now use the euro and a plan is in place to reveal a Europa -- a figure from Greek mythology -- series of notes gradually over several years. The €5 note from the Europa series is already in use. The banknotes have a protective coating, so they will need to be replaced less frequently, thus lowering costs and reducing the environmental impact.
