Centre of Dublin plunged into darkness due to power fault

People in Dublin city centre as the power failed

Parts of Dublin city and Drumcondra were left in darkness this evening, due to an ESB power outage at Bedford Row.

Dame Street, Temple Bar and Drumcondra were left in darkness after the fault which occurred at 7.30pm this evening.

Over 800 customers are affected by the fault.

ESB spokesman Kieran O'Neill said that ESB crews were en route to the issue and it had nothing to do with the weather.

“The fault is within a substantion in Bedford Row and crews are on their way to it,” he said.

He said that crews would be working to restore power as quickly as possible. Just after 9pm, ESB tweeted that most of those affected by the cut had their power restored.

"Power has now been restored to most of those effected we continue to work to restore supply to those still out."
