Centra's €10m boost to create 150 new jobs

RETAIL chain Centra is to create 150 jobs this year as part of a €10m investment that will lead to 20 new stores opening around the country.
The company, which is part of Cork's Musgrave Group, said yesterday the new jobs would result from outlets being opened on new sites this year.
The €10m investment also includes funds injected into existing outlets for extensions and refurbishments.
The planned rate of investment for 2012 by Centra is lower than that it undertook in 2011. This time last year, it unveiled a €23m plan to create 500 jobs, 200 of them on greenfield sites.
Centra generated sales of €1.4bn in 2011, according to managing director Martin Kelleher. That's unchanged on the figure for 2010.
Mr Kelleher said the chain had adapted quickly to budget-conscious consumers who had changed shopping habits as a result of the downturn.
Economist David McWill- iams was hired by the chain to prepare a report on its impact in Ireland.
