Celtic Mist sails into a new life

THE new owners of Charles Haughey's Celtic Mist are offering day trips on board the famous yacht to raise the necessary funding to refit it as a maritime research vessel.
Last April, the family of the late Mr Haughey gifted the French-built ketch to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG).
It has been estimated that it will cost around €50,000 to refit the yacht. Once she is back in the water, the public will be entitled to a full day's sailing aboard the renamed RV (research vessel) Celtic Mist if they pay €50 for a Celtic Mist Certificate.
IWDG co-ordinator Dr Simon Berrow said: "We've a lot of work to carry out on the yacht before we can take it out for research. We are confident that we can raise the money to run it."
