Celia's advice to Bertie: I wish he'd just shut up
FORMER Taoiseach Bertie Ahern's ex-partner Celia Larkin is not expected to be at his birthday party this week.
Ms Larkin yesterday advised Mr Ahern to "shut up" as his views continue to attract controversy.
Mr Ahern claimed people overstretched themselves during the boom and it was now handy to blame somebody else.
The former Fianna Fail leader made the comments in a TV3 documentary 'The Rise and Fall of Fianna Fail', which starts tonight.
But Ms Larkin said he's not helping his case with his latest round of comments.
"I wish he'd shut up. He doesn't do himself any favours," she said.
Ms Larkin said she was unaware of Mr Ahern's view about running for the presidency.
"I haven't spoken to him so I don't know," she said.
Mr Ahern turns 60 in a week, so his daughters are throwing a bash for him in Croke Park this weekend.
Georgina, the wife of Nicky Byrne of Westlife, and Cecelia, the best-selling author, are holding the party on Friday night.
The invitations to the party, which were sent out last week, are designed like match tickets.
Meanwhile, the son of the late Taoiseach Charlie Haughey describes his father's protege, Mr Ahern, as "ruthless".
Former junior minister Sean Haughey said when Mr Ahern was supporting someone "you wondered if there was also a dagger being stuck in the back".
