EDDIE Irvine is no longer a regular on the social pages of glossy magazines but his years at the top of motorsport helped him amass around €100m.
The 48-year-old grew up in Co Down and began his professional racing career in 1983. He quickly rose through the ranks, receiving his big break in Formula One in 1993.
In 1996, Irvine was made the No 2 driver to Michael Schumacher at Ferrari. It is largely agreed that his best season was that of 1999.
Irvine drove for Ferrari for five years and Jaguar for three. He also had a stint at Jordan.
After his retirement in 2001, he is said to have made millions in property investment and even bought himself an island in the Bahamas for over $1m, where his neighbours include Johnny Depp and Nicolas Cage. In 2005, Irvine opened an upmarket bar in Dublin called Cocoon, which attracted a variety of celebrity clientele and where Eddie celebrated his 40th birthday. However, the business ran up huge losses and closed in 2009.
In 2006, he was listed as the fifth richest person in Northern Ireland. Despite his distaste for the title, Irvine has often been dubbed a playboy, having been linked to plenty of beautiful, high-profile women, including model and DJ Michelle Doherty and 'Baywatch's Pamela Anderson.
However, the only constant woman in his life has been his daughter, Zoe, with former girlfriend Maria Drummond, whose birth, Irvine has said, was the best moment of his life.
