A pride of celebrity chefs braced the arctic conditions to turn up the heat in the kitchen at two major Christmas food shows in Dublin.

Up to 20,000 people attended the 'Taste of Christmas' event in Dublin's convention centre where chefs -- including Heston Blumenthal, Catherine Fulvio, Kevin Dundon and Clodagh McKenna -- passed on their tips for cooking the perfect Christmas dinner.

Organisers said the show, which opened on Friday and closed last night, was packed to capacity despite the inclement weather.

Meanwhile, just up the road, the 'Food and Wine' Christmas Show took place at the RDS, and also attracted crowds.

Star chefs including Derry Clarke, Dylan McGrath, Kevin Thornton and Neven Maguire were on hand to give pointers and share their culinary expertise.

There were masterclasses in the best champagnes to enjoy with a Christmas lunch, 'flash tastings,' and tips on the best 'good mood' foods.

More than 10,000 people are said to have attended the culinary event over the weekend.
