'THE X Factor' came to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin yesterday when some of the show's biggest stars popped in to pay the patients a visit.

Judge Louis Walsh and Irish semi-finalist Mary Byrne joined other celebrities as they visited wards and signed autographs for young fans.

"Coming from a reality show, this is a big reality check, but I'm delighted to do it," Louis Walsh told the Irish Independent.

Joining him was former contestant Mary Byrne, who one patient described as "the real winner of 'The X Factor'", and she hugged young fans and happily posed for pictures.

The 51-year-old singer was accompanied by her daughter Deborah, with whom she will be spending time at home in Ballyfermot, Dublin, over Christmas.

Rugby star Rob Kearney, on crutches due to a recent injury, and RTE broadcaster Ryan Tubridy, accompanied by his agent Noel Kelly, were among some of the other well known faces taking part in the Christmas visit organised by charity fundraiser Caroline Downey and PR agent Toni Wall.
