The country's youngest garda, Ceejay McArdle (4) from Castleblaney, was the guest of honour at an Áras An Uachtaráin garden party.
Ceejay, who was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2014, was made an honorary graduate from garda training college in Templemore earlier this month.
Dressed in full uniform, Ceejay met with President Michael D Higgins yesterday afternoon.
The party was a colourful celebration with performers from Co Wexford's Bui Bolg Theatre company parading around the lawns.
During the course of the party President Michael D Higgins praised the Irish football team and the Irish fans at the Euros.
"We take pride in our talented team and in the Irish fans who have earned widespread tributes for their exemplary behaviour," Higgins told the crowd.
