Cattle marts on alert after heifers stolen

Published 05/01/2013 | 05:00

DETECTIVES close to the Border are hunting a gang of rustlers, believed to be operating from the North, which snatched cattle from a farm.

Four heifers were taken from a farm-shed at Cordevlis, a few miles from Rockcorry village in Co Monaghan.

All the animals were in-calf, and gardai believe they were loaded onto a lorry-trailer which may have been driven across the Border into the North.

The PSNI has been alerted and a watch is to be kept on livestock salesyards on both sides of the Border in case the stolen cattle are offered for sale with false ear tags.

Gardai at Monaghan have appealed for anyone with information about the rustling to contact Castleblayney Garda Station on (042) 974 0668.
