Gardai are investigating a fire that destroyed two cars outside a city centre terrace of houses early this morning.
One car, an Audi, went on fire at a house near Palatine Square close to Arbour Hill in the north of Dublin city.
The fire then spread to a neighbouring car. There was damage to both houses also, with panes of glass breaking in the windows.
Both cars were gutted in the fire which broke out at around 5am.
There was also minor damage done to another car.
The owner of the 04 registered Audi A4 told Independent.ie that he believes his car was set on fire by vandals.
"Cars just don't burst into flames. The gardai said it could be a mindless act of violence.
"I heard a bang at around 5am and looked out the window and saw the far on fire, so I ran out the back with my partner," he said.
The fire quickly spread to a Nissan Note owned by the next door neighbour, and also damaged another car parked along the row of terraced houses of Tomar Court.
Two units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene and required the backup of ESB Networks to assess heat damage to the meter boxes of the houses.
Gardai are investigating the cause of the fire.
