MUM'S the word when it comes to Ireland's newest, second generation fashion family.
Lily Spain (22) makes her catwalk debut on Friday when she graduates from NCAD.
And watching the graduate show front row will be her mum, leading Irish fashion designer Carolyn Donnelly, creative director at Dunnes Stores and formerly one half of the Quin Donnelly fashion label.
Carolyn has probably dressed half the women in Ireland over the last 30 years and she is delighted that her eldest child, and only daughter, has followed her into the industry. They are the second family to double up in the ragtrade in recent years after John and Simone Rocha whose star is still rising.
"I didn't tell her not to do fashion but Lily was both academic and artistic so I didn't really know what she was going to do," said Carolyn.
"Lily took us by surprise when she said she was going to NCAD but, having said that, she didn't really stand a chance because she was exposed to fashion from an early age," said Ms Donnelly, whose twin sons are studying business.
