FESTIVE shoppers in Cork city were busy combining some last-minute present shopping with bargain hunting in the pre-Christmas sales.
Debenhams, Marks and Spencers, Brown Thomas and Gap were among the stores offering heavily discounted goods in an effort to get consumers to splash the cash.
Norma Cronin, from Glanmire in Cork, who is getting married on Friday, told how she was finding value for money as she did some last-minute shopping.
"Gift sets are very good (value) in Debenhams," said Norma. "There is 50pc off shoes and dresses in Brown Thomas, which I thought was nice for New Year's Eve," said the mother of one, who was buying presents for her own mother and her bridesmaid.
Teenager Joanne O'Riordan, from Millstreet, Co Cork, who was born without limbs and who has addressed the UN in New York, had just hit the shops with her brother Stephen.
"I'm shopping for my friends and my family and I decided to bring along my brother. He's going to be the perfume smeller so it should be good craic anyway," said Joanne.
