THE Irish Cancer Society is aiming to harness the power of social media to encourage more people to wear a daffodil today.
The move is part of the society's annual fundraising Daffodil Day and also marks the organisation's 50th anniversary. An Post has launched a new stamp for anniversary.
In a bid to make the event bigger than ever, the society is now inviting the public to get involved on Facebook and Twitter.
The society is hoping to raise €3.4m for its services with all the funds going towards its free nationwide care, information and support services for people with cancer and their families.
Around 4,000 volunteers will be on streets and in shopping centres selling fresh daffodils and daffodil pins.
