Call-outs to AA hit record levels in week of chaos

THE AA attended 1,013 breakdown call-outs on Monday, January 4, the highest number ever in its 100-year history.
Tuesday's snowfall on the east coast then led to one of the worst traffic snarl-ups ever in Dublin, with motorists stuck in their cars for hours, some even forced to abandon them. "It was an extraordinary week, we simply have never seen anything like it in the AA," said director of policy Conor Faughnan.
"We are gearing up for the same again from tomorrow as the forecast is for the freeze to continue. Let's hope this week sees the end of it."
