RELATIVES of the signatories to the 1916 Proclamation of Independence last night called for the entire 1916 terrace in Moore Street in Dublin to be given national monument status.
They said the Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs, Jimmy Deenihan, should act on the Oireachtas undertaking to preserve the 1916 national monument in its entirety.
National monument protection must be extended to all buildings, structures and laneways linked to the Rising and there must also be an independent battlefield site assessment of the Carlton site, a statement said.
