Cabinet approves publication of Children and Family Relationship Bill
THE Cabinet has approved the publication of the highly significant Children and Family Relationship Bill.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald today secured cabinet support for the legislation, which Taoiseach Enda Kenny described as the most "important change to family law since the foundation of the State".
The bill will now be proofed and printed ahead of its formal publication on Thursday.
The new law proposes a series of sweeping changes to the way in which families are erceived in this State.
It will allow for the adoption by same sex-couples and is set to be passed through the Oireachtas ahead of the same-sex marriage referendum in May.
