The Criminal Assets Bureau is taking it's war against crime to eBay - selling a watch seized from a well-known criminal.
And more items seized by CAB could go on sale online in the future, if the sale of the €9,000 Rolex is a success.
The watch was seized from a criminal in Limerick, who had bought it as a Christmas present for his girlfriend, it is understood.
CAB placed the Ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust up for auction on eBay last night. Opening bids started at €6,000.
The watch was seized by gardai in November 2012.
In its description on the auction site, the watch is described as "an item that has been previously worn"
"The watch was purchased at Christmas 2011 and is accompanied with the benefit of a 24 month watch guarantee.
"The sale of the watch arises from an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997 and 2005 and is on sale by the court-appointed receiver."
A CAB spokesperson last night said the sale was being treated as an experiment.
Bidders have until the evening of Friday October 18 to make an offer. Proceeds will go to the Exchequer.
