Fr Brian O’Fearraigh, from Gaoth Dobhair, Co Donegal, is well known for his trademark mop of curly hair and his good humour.

The priest decided to cut his hair in aid of the Donegal Hospice, Good and New, and the Donegal Cancer Bus.

Fr Brian, who has a huge following on social media, drummed up support for the cause by posting photos before and after the event.

He took to the shampoo aisle in his local supermarket a few hours before the big chop, to bid his beloved hair products goodbye.

And afterwards, he posted photos of the results saying: "I could have sworn I had a hairy face yesterday".

“This is a short message of thanksgiving to everyone who supported last evenings charity function, in whatever way,” he said.

“Without your help, support and dedication, it simply would not have been the great success story it was, €12,000 for charity, is truly amazing.”

“As Sacred Scripture says, "It is in giving that we receive".

“My prayer is that all of you will receive the blessings of peace, happiness, love and joy in abundance, for the kindness and support shown and given.”
