It was a busy night for fire fighters as they battled large gorse fires across the country last night.

Yesterday's high temperatures led to large gorse fires in Donegal, Monaghan, Fermanagh, Mayo, Sligo, Tyrone and Kildare.

One of the largest fires broke out in the Curragh, Co Kildare shortly before 9pm last night.

Kildare Fire Brigade, as well as Dublin Fire Brigade and The Irish Army were called to put out the fire that engulfed fir trees.

Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed this morning that the fire was now under control.

In Monaghan, a large gorse fire broke out at Eshbrack Bog, consuming the area.

Monaghan Fire Brigade said it was a "long day" and reminded the public that gorse fires destroy natural habitats and endanger the public.
