Business tours worth €11m

ALMOST 8,000 high-spending international conference delegates are due to arrive in Ireland this month and will spend €11m.

A study of business tourism by Failte Ireland has found that overseas delegates spent more than twice as much as leisure tourists.

It estimates that each person attending a conference here spends between €1,300 and €1,500 during the course of their stay. Accommodation accounts for the biggest spending, followed by food and drink, shopping and transport. Nearly a quarter were accompanied by family or friends and 80pc said they wanted to return to Ireland for a holiday in the future.
