Bullets and bomb parts seized in Real IRA raid
A haul of armour-piercing bullets and bomb component parts has been recovered by gardai during a search of a vacant house in a Co Louth village.
The search was part of an operation targeting the activities of the Real IRA.
Officers called in an Army bomb disposal unit after they made the find in the holiday home in Clogherhead village.
Houses in the area were evacuated while the haul was being examined by Army ordnance experts on Tuesday night. But no explosives were found and residents were allowed to return home.
Gardai said last night that the haul included a broad assortment of about 300 bullets, some of which were ammunition for a .5 inch heavy machine gun, which can penetrate armour, and 9mm weapons.
The cache also included parts of timing power units for bomb manufacture.
