BROADCASTER Bill O'Herlihy has been appointed chairman of the Irish Film Board – without taking any payment for the role, writes Fiach Kelly.
The new film board, also known as Bord Scannan na hEireann, will last for four years, and includes actress Kate O'Toole, the daughter of Peter O'Toole.
No one on the seven-member board will take payment, according to a spokeswoman for Arts Minister Jimmy Deenihan, who made the appointments.
Mr O'Herlihy is a staunch Fine Gael supporter, who first worked as a journalist and later went on to set up his own PR company.
A government spokesman insisted the broadcaster's political persuasions had no effect on his appointment.
