Breath-testing laws approved

New laws to allow for mandatory breath testing on the side of the road were approved by ministers last night.

The new Road Traffic Bill will provide the basis for the legislation, which will be published in the coming days.

Former FF TD dies after short illness

TRIBUTES have been paid to a former Fianna Fail TD who died after a short illness. Hundreds last night attended the removal of Carey Joyce (88), who served as a TD for Cork East between 1981 and 1982.

Mr Joyce -- a farmer and a native of Fermoy, Co Cork -- died last Sunday evening. He will be buried after 11.30am Requiem Mass today at St Patrick's Church.

US software firm to create 50 jobs

A US-based software company is to create 50 jobs at a new plant in Galway.

New Jersey's Synchronoss Technologies, which is a world leader of software to manage online data transfer, is to establish a research and development and operations centre at the Parkmore Business Park on the eastern outskirts of the city. The company is actively seeking software developers.
