A handful of brave swimmers took the the Wicklow waters today to take part in the Bray swim, even though the official event was cancelled by organisers.

The annual event was rescheduled by the local Lions club due to poor weather conditions, but this didn't stop a handful of swimmer taking their chances with both the cold water, lashing rain and rough waves.

A number of public figures were set to take part in the swim, including Fine Gael TD Simon Harris, who tweeted yesterday that he was looking forward to taking part in the swim.

The charity event will now officially take place on St Patrick's Day. In 2012 the swim raised around €18,600 for charities.
