A FIVE-year-old boy who was attending his cousin's Communion is critically ill in hospital after he was knocked down by a car yesterday, writes Brendan Furlong.
Fintan Smyth, of Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, was injured at Mohurry, Kiltealy, Co Wexford, while playing with his brothers and cousins on the roadway close to their home.
It's believed the young boy made his way across the road towards a field entrance when he was clipped by a passing car.
Fintan was transferred to Wexford General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
