A young child is in critical condition after falling from an upstairs window at his home in Co Kerry.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 3.40pm in the family's home at Hogan's Place in the centre of Castleisland.

The boy suffered head injuries as a result of the fall and was immediately rushed to University Hospital Kerry, before being transferred to Temple Street Children's hospital.

Jeremy Burke, PRO of Castleisland Chamber Alliance, spoke to Radio Kerry and said the family were thinking about the young boy.

"Anything like is terrible for any community but particularly with a child so young our thoughts are with the family and with the child, and we hope he has a speedy recovery," he said.

"They're neighbours of ours here just down the street from the shop and we feel very badly for the family we hope he does have a full recovery," he added.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.
