Boy (3) killed and three others injured in two car crash

A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in collided with another car this evening.

The 36-year-old female driver of this car was critically injured and removed by Air Ambulance to Tallaght hospital.

The road crash occurred at Annamarron Co Monaghan on the N2 (Main Dublin/Derry Road) at approximately 6.30pm today

Two women travelling in the other car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.   

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042-9690190, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

They are particularly anxious to speak to the driver of a lorry who stopped at the scene of the collision.

This section of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and will remain closed overnight. Diversions are in place.
