Boy (3) in critical condition following Laois road crash

A three year old boy is in critical condition after a serious road accident in Portarlington, Co Laois tonight.

The two vehicle collision occurred at 830pm this evening approximately one mile outside Portarlington on the road towards Portlaoise.

Two small children, aged three and six, were travelling with a female driver at the time of the accident.

The sole driver of the other vehicle involved was male.

They were taken to Tullamore and Portlaoise hospitals to receive medical attention.

The three-year-old boy was seriously injured and is now in critical condition.

The female driver is in serious condition but her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.  The six-year-old passenger received minor injuries. 

The male driver of the other car was not seriously hurt.

The road has been sealed off for forensic examination and diversions have been put in place.
