A 12-year-old boy died after falling off a scrambler motorbike and under a parked Jeep in north Belfast.

Daniel Mooney was a pillion passenger when he came off the bike at the junction of Mountcoole Park and Mountcoole Gardens, in Ballysillan, at about 9.15pm yesterday.

The boy was taken to hospital where he died a short time later from severe head injuries.

Police confirmed he was a passenger on the bike and fell under a parked Jeep.

Another scrambler bike was being driven in the area at the time. Both machines have been seized by police.

The PSNI appealed for witnesses to come forward. They have not yet spoken to the rider of the bike from which the victim fell.
