Boxer's record attempt packs 100,000 punches

A HARD-hitting boxer is attempting to punch his way into the Guinness Book of Records.

Boxing coach Eunan Devenney (42), from Ballybofey, Co Donegal, has to hit the 100lb leather punch bag for at least 36 hours to beat the current record.

Eunan has estimated that he will have to throw upwards of 100,000 punches to outlast the record holder and in doing so, raise funds for Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children.

The marathon feat got under way at the Twin Towns Boxing Club in Ballybofey at 10am yesterday and, if he stays the course, should last until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

In 2001, Eunan entered the Guinness Book of Records when he clocked up 24 hours and 16 minutes of uninterrupted punching but three years later he lost his pole position.
