Boxer Egan a knockout as he shows young fans the ropes
OLYMPIC boxing hero Kenny Egan showed off his nimble moves yesterday.
It is just days since he lost a bout in a tournament in Turkey, but Egan delighted pupils in Edenderry, Co Offaly, by showing off his skipping skills.
He was a knockout with youngsters at the town's Boys National School and showed them that playground skipping is definitely not just for girls.
"As a boxer, I've done plenty of skipping in my time and it really is a great way to get your heart pumping -- I should know," said the 28-year-old amateur.
"I use it to warm up or cool down at the end of a session. It's not always easy to encourage kids to be active but here today in Edenderry, the boxing capital of Ireland, it is great to see so many kids outside in the sunshine skipping and enjoying themselves,'' he added.
He visited the Co Offaly school to help launch the Irish Heart Foundation's annual Skipathon.
The top southpaw added: "I am delighted to support the Irish Heart Foundation and encourage children to skip and have fun with exercise."
More than 600 primary schools nationwide will be taking part in the Irish Heart Foundation's Skipathon, which runs from April 19 to 23 to help children raise vital funds for the Irish Heart Foundation's children's programmes and get good physical exercise at the same time.
