Bord na Mona worker dies in accident at ESB power station

A MAN has died in a suspected workplace accident at an ESB power station.





Gardai were alerted to the incident at the plant in Lanesborough, Co Longford, shortly before 1am.

It is believed the man, who was a Bord na Mona employee in his 50s, got trapped in machinery at the plant.

The victim, who was working at the power station, was taken to Mullingar General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Gardai and the Health and Safety Authority and Bord na Mona are investigating.



"It is with deep regret that we confirm that earlier today a Bord na Mona employee died in an accident at Lough Ree Power Station," said a spokesman for Bord na Mona.



"The company have been working with the emergency services through the night and have already informed the HSA.



"The company have also begun an internal inquiry into the circumstances of the man's death.



"Our deepest sympathies go to his family at this difficult time."
