Houses have been damaged by small explosions in the Ballymoney area of County Antrim where the second stage of the Giro d’Italia is taking place today.

Pipe bombs were thrown at the houses in Henry Street and Hannah Court in the town in the early hours of Saturday morning breaking windows in the properties.

Occupants in both homes were very shocked by the attacks the PSNI said.

The Giro began in Belfast yesterday evening with the team time trial leaving Stormont at six o’clock.

The race today will take riders through the beautiful coastal Glens of Antrim route.
