Gardai closed off part of Ranelagh's main thoroughfare this afternoon following a bomb scare - which is now believed to have been an elaborate hoax.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at the scene at approximately 4.30pm.
Gardai reported a 'suspect device' in the area and called in the disposal team.
The device was located in a well-known cafe on the Ranelagh Road.
Residents and shop owners in nearby buildings were evacuated during the incident.
Ranelagh Road was closed off between Chelmford Road and Sandford Road junction but has since reopened.
