Bogus refugees return home
A group of Georgian asylum seekers, deported on a charter flight yesterday afternoon, included 11 men with criminal convictions.
A total of 38 bogus refugees were detained after they had been served with a deportation order.
Immigration officials said 35 of the group, who comprised 33 men, four women and one child, had been living here in Refugee Integration Agency accommodation.
The cost of the flight, which was chartered from the Dutch carrier Transavia through a UK company, Air Partner, was €124,000.
The Department of Justice will be refunded €43,000 through the European Returns Fund.
