Body of young man recovered from 65ft deep blow hole at popular look-out point
The body of a young man has been found at a popular tourist attraction on the west coast of Ireland.
A cliff rescue team from the Achill Coast Guard unit recovered the body from a 65ft blow hole at Dun na mBó (Doonamo Point) in Co Mayo.
The volunteers embarked on their difficult mission after receiving a call for assistance shortly after 12.30pm this afternoon.
Gardai from Belmullet station requested that the Achill team search in the area near Eagle Island following reports of a missing person.
The operation - tasked by the Malin Head Rescue Co-Ordination Centre - concluded shortly after 7.30pm this evening.
"The mission itself was very difficult," a Coast Guard spokesperson told independent.ie.
"It took a number of attempts to recover the body from the blowhole as volunteers descended into the blowhole with ropes."
Dun na mBó is popular for locals and tourists as a look-out point because of its location atop cliffs, facing the Atlantic Ocean.
