Body of woman discovered at house in Mayo

GARDAI are investigating the discovery of a woman’s body in rural Mayo.

The body of the woman, who was aged in her late 40s, was discovered in a house in Ballycurrin, near Glen Corrib, Co Mayo, this afternoon.

The discovery was made after emergency services were called to the house at approximately 4.30pm.

The woman was pronounced dead at the house.

Her body remains at the scene, which has been sealed off pending a forensic and technical examination.

That is expected to be carried out tomorrow.

Gardaí, who remain at the scene, are understood to be keeping an open mind on the cause of death.

The local coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist were notified of the death and were expected to attend the scene.

Gardaí in Claremorris are  continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

A statement from gardaí said enquiries were ongoing in the case. The results of the post mortem will determine the course of the garda inquiry.
