Body of missing man (30) retrieved from River Shannon

The body of a missing 30-year-old man has been recovered in the West of Ireland on Wednesday night.

The remains of Janusz Jasicki were retrieved from the River Shannon near the town of Carrick-On-Shannon at approximately 8.45pm.

They notified gardai who sent the Garda Water Unit to the scene. Mr Jasicki's remains was subsequently taken to Sligo General Hospital.  It is understood Mallin Head Coastguard assisted in the search.

Gardai are not treating this incident as suspicious. 

In recent days, Gardai conducted checkpoints in Carrick-on-Shannon where Mr Jasicki was last seen.

Intensive searches were carried out, with the assistance of local garda specialist units, members of the Civil Defence and members of Leitrim's Fire Services.
