A body found on the Galway coastline today is not believed to be that of a missing 18-year-old.
The body — thought to be that of a man in his 20s — was discovered near Oranmore as the search for the missing 18-year-old continued.
The teenager was last seen entering the River Corrib at O’Brien’s Bridge, close to Galway city centre at about 11.30pm on Saturday night.
The alert was raised by passers-by and gardai from the nearby Mill St station and a fire crew from Galway fire service attended at the scene within minutes.
An extensive search involving the Garda Water Unit, Valentia Coastguard and the RNLI Lifeboat took place late on Saturday and again yesterday.
Gardai later confirmed that the body found close to Oranmore was thought to be that of a man in his early 20s. He was not immediately identified.
