A man found dead in the vicinity of a Co Kerry hospital has been named as Nigel Leigh.
The body of the 42-year-old, from Fossa, Killarney, was discovered by a member of the public close to Kerry General Hospital at about 7am.
He had been arrested for public order offences near his home yesterday.
Gardai said that shortly after his arrival at Killarney Garda Station an ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital.
The Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission has been asked to carry out an independent investigation because Mr Leigh was in contact with Gardai prior to his death.
In a statement, the GSOC said: "The investigation into the circumstances which led to his death continues."
Ombudsman investigators spent much of the day examining the scene and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them on 1890 600 800.
Mr Leigh's death, not far from the grounds of Kerry General Hospital (KGH) in Tralee where he had been admitted as a patient, is not being treated as suspicious.
It is understood that Mr Leigh, who was in his early 40s and from Fossa near Killarney, had discharged himself from hospital late yesterday.
His remains were discovered near the carwash on the forecourt of Kelliher’s Garage in Rathass in Tralee, near the hospital.
