Body found by Gardai in search for missing man

A body has been found in Cavan, near an area where Gardai are believed to be searching for missing Dublin man Joseph Whelan.
No identified of the body has taken place, and a Garda spokesperson told Independent.ie that “they had no details yet if the discovery was related to the search for Mr Whelan.”
“All we can say at the moment is that a body has been discovered in Cavan, near the banks of Lough Ramor. We believed Garda officers first came across the body around midday.”
However his wife Sonya has confirmed to Independent.ie that she has been made aware of the body's discovery by gardai, and has been asked to make a formal identification tomorrow.
The area, thought to be near the hotel outside Virginia, where missing Dublin man Joseph Whelan was last seen, has been sealed off “pending an examination”.

No trace of the Dublin man has been found apart from one runner and his jacket after he went missing in the early hours of April 4 from Virginia, Co Cavan, after he travelled there from his home at Brindley Park in Ashbourne, Co Meath.
It is believed he spoke to his wife on the phone in a disoriented state in the early hours of Easter Saturday.
Described as being 6" tall of strong build with dark hair, Mr Whelan, who has two boys aged five and six - was known to gardai but only for minor offences.
