Blaze causes long delays for rail passengers
THOUSANDS of frustrated Irish Rail passengers faced delays of up to three hours following a malfunction at a signalling station.
Passengers on around 30 journeys between Dublin's Heuston Station and Killarney, Co Kerry, faced delays of up to three hours after a fire damaged equipment.
The fire at Limerick Junction forced Irish Rail to revert to a manual signalling system.
There were delays as trains had to wait to be given the all-clear to proceed. Irish Rail spokeswoman Jane Creegan said she understood the frustration of passengers, who were offered refreshments and refunds. But the problem was "outside our control".
Normal service will resume this morning.
