Blasket memories for Maureen
The widow of former Taoiseach Charles Haughey yesterday joined generations of her family as they handed over her husband's papers relating to his Blasket Islands retreat.
Maureen Haughey was at the Blasket Island Visitor Centre in Dunquin, Co Kerry, with sons Sean, Conor and Ciaran, daughter Eimear and grandchildren to hand over the seven boxes containing more than 3,000 documents.
"We have very happy memories of family occasions when we were all together on the island," said Mrs Haughey.
The documents, given to the Blasket Centre on permanent loan, relate to the archaeology, ecology and history of Inis Mhicileain and include handwritten notes from the late Taoiseach to local people.
