THE son of Bishop Casey has spoken of an emotional meeting with his father for the first time in close to a decade.

Peter Murphy, (39), from Boston, was delighted to have spoken to his ailing father once again despite the former Kerry bishop's battle with Alzheimer's.

"I feel incredibly lucky that I got that chance to see him again. I was very happy to see him and very happy he was as with us as he was," he said.

Bishop Casey suffered a dramatic fall from grace after revelations he fathered a child with Peter's mother, American Annie Murphy, rocked Ireland in 1992.

But Mr Murphy said his first meeting with his father in eight or nine years "couldn't have worked out better".

He thanked RTE broadcaster Ryan Tubridy for inviting him onto 'The Late Late Show' a fortnight ago, which ultimately led to an invitation to meet his 86-year-old father.
