RTE's much-loved sports anchor Bill O'Herlihy has confirmed he will be hanging up his microphone after the next World Cup final.
The Cork star said the 2014 tournament would be his last time in the studio with Eamon Dunphy, Liam Brady and John Giles.
The 74-year-old presenter and public relations guru believes there are plenty of young presenters ready to take over his seat in Montrose after the final in Rio de Janeiro in two years.
He said: "I'll slink off into the darkness after that. Sport has been very good to me and I think I have been very good to it, too."
The anchor, who has told RTE bosses about his decision, will be 75 when he bows out of the studio.
