Five units of the fire service battled the fire which broke out at The Cycle Shop on Clanbrassil Street, Dundalk, Co Louth, at around 11am yesterday.

It is not known how the fire started, but the shop was completely gutted in the blaze.

Gardai have launched an investigation although it is believed the fire started accidentally. Gardai confirmed there were no reports of injuries.

Clanbrassil Street has been closed until at least this morning, with motorists urged to take an alternative route.

Meanwhile, a well-known bar in Galway was also gutted by fire. Four tenders - -three from Galway and one from Athenry - fought the blaze at the Spinnaker Bar and Restaurant near Salthill for over three hours.

The Spinnaker is well known to golfers, as it is alongside the tee for the fourth hole at Galway Golf Club.

The blaze was first noticed by a passer-by at 3am and it is understood that nobody was in the building at the time.
