Bike schemes to be rolled out
THE Dublinbikes scheme is set to become the template for similar initiatives across the country.
Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford are now examining the possibility of introducing similar public bike schemes - at a total cost of €6.4m.
As in Dublin, it would allow cyclists to use bikes for 30 minutes between different locations across the cities for a small annual charge.
A series of meetings to gauge interest in the idea have been scheduled, with the first set to take place in Cork City Hall on Monday.
It is understood that funding is a key issue.
In Dublin, advertising agency JCDecaux sponsored the initiative in return for a number of advertising sites.
