Bidders in line for a windfall on nearby land
BIDDERS who have offered to donate children's hospital sites for free would benefit from huge development opportunities if their land is selected.
Construction firm Flynn and O'Flaherty has offered at least eight acres at the old Phoenix Park racecourse, while farming brothers Fergus and Frank Connon have offered land free of charge near Dublin Airport.
The land surrounding the site chosen would escalate in value as demand rose for services such as shops and residential units to cater to the hospital and its staff.
A spokesman for Flynn and O'Flaherty said: "There are no plans at the moment to develop the rest of the site but if there was to be a hospital, clearly then there might be a demand for it."
A spokeswoman for the Connons said: "Anyone that's putting up land and giving it for free, there has to be an upside to it, but its not like they've got a secret town centre planned."
